Course Objectives This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts and philosophies necessary to work as a creative member of a concept development team at work on an animated film, TV show and 2D games. The latest techniques, materials and professional tips will be discussed or demonstrated to the students. 2d concept design course will provide students with an emphasis on introduction to professional idea generation and visual development. Students may learn about designing 2d character models, basic storytelling, storyboarding, background design, compositing and frame by frame animation. They will be using Photoshop and After Effects as their main tools. (Owning a small drawing tablet is advised)
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will be able to create 2d character designs for animation purposes,
  • Will be able to create concept designs that fulfill animation production needs,
  • Will be able to create storyboards and moodboards,
  • Will be able to analyze various 2d techniques for entertainment fields
  • Will be able to understand the rules of motion and animation
  • Will be able to have the ability of conceptualize a narrative idea into an animated piece
Course Description This course grounds students in the artistic and technical fundamentals of concept design, character design and storyboarding providing solid foundation for further study in the field. Basic frame by frame animation tools Photoshop, Animate and After Effects will be viewed.
