Course Objectives Whether printed or on screen, publications do not communicate only with text and images. Communication involves issues like designing with creative decisions, implementing environmentally sustainable designs, organizing content, determining the weight of paper to be used in printing, knowing how to work with margins, and identifying all the design elements that shape the reader's reading flow. The goal is not only to practice in traditional ways, but also to offer readers various experiences. No decision in the publication design is inconsistent or arbitrary, even the smallest creative contributions can change the whole experience.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • They will be able to design typesetting in multi-page documents.
  • They will be able to work with typography, layout, typesetting, paging, visual and text relations.
  • They will be able to edit large amounts of text in a hierarchical and legible way.
  • They will be able to work with digital images and learn to prepare them for printing.
  • They will be able to plan pre-press and production techniques.
  • They will learn to work with sustainable design, environmentally sensitive products and production techniques, and learn to create design ideas.
  • They will be able to apply binding and finishing techniques.
  • They will be able to create page layouts for the screen and create interactive designs.
  • They can design with Adobe InDesign program.
Course Description This course begins with examining the designs of published products. As a priority approach, the interactions and reading experiences in these products are discussed. Typography, layout, interactive features, methods of giving meaning over selected materials are the main features of this course. Students will study the contents of their work, think carefully and prepare fresh and creative ways for page layouts both for print and for the screen.
